IAC Video Wall

IAC/InterActiveCorp, New York, New York

Creating the largest, 120’ x 11’, permanently installed, edge-blended video wall in the U.S. was just the first audio visual challenge in this high profile 9-story glass tower.

A “ship shape” creates its own challenges.

This Frank Gehry building features a 9-story glass façade with contours reminiscent of the unfurled, wind-tossed sails of a ship. There are two video walls in the lobby. The larger west wall is 120’ wide and 11’ tall and is clearly visible from the West Side Highway. Here the challenge was to create unprecedented resolution on an enormously wide video wall that also had severe depth constraints.

Through a custom process

The projectors are edge-blended to produce one seamless, 120’x11’ image. A dual bounce mirror sled assembly rotates the image from the rear projectors allowing optimum resolution in a remarkably small projection space

The wall hosts images and data

Informed by IAC’s online businesses and major brands. On the lobby’s East side, a similar but smaller video wall is 11’ high by 26’ wide and hosts three rear screen projectors and comparable sophisticated technology.
The screen’s huge size and beyond-high-def requirements demand colossal computing power to generate video output. Seven head-end audio visual racks hold, 30 high speed video server PC’s, ten real time video processors and large scale video routing equipment.

In addition to the unprecedented first floor video walls, McCann implemented the audio visual design and integration of the 6th floor executive boardroom. Features include, two video conference cameras plus a dual edge blended projection system. The system is capable of high definition videoconferencing, audio conferencing and includes a HD/DVD Blu-ray player.

The conference table features 16 retractable touch screen monitors, one at each seat. These are neatly recessed within the table and slide out for use. Three of these screens use Crestron interfaces that facilitate control of the projector, lighting, shades and Power Point presentations. For enhanced acoustics and user convenience, the microphone/audio system built into each of the audio visual monitors places the speakers directly in front of each participant.
