Getting Sirius about signage
Pioneers in commercial-free satellite radio, Sirius called on McCann to design and integrate signage in the company’s two-story lobby at their Rockefeller Center headquarters.
A second story job
Our design for Sirius radio’s lobby signage, called for the creation and installation of a large, rear projection screen on a relatively narrow ledge. The screen sits on the second floor of an open two-story lobby opposite Howard Stern’s studio. We chose a 100” diagonal, Blue Ocean rear projection screen and a Christie 8000 lumen 3-chip DLP projector. The screens high contrast characteristics lend an appealing glossy depth to projected images. Its proprietary diffusion technology creates high definition, uniform brightness and brilliantly balanced colors.
Borderless images
Our experience has taught us that a custom cast acrylic screen like this one, delivers a unique “self-rigidity” that maintains its form without external frames or tension systems. The result is a borderless high definition image that intensifies the viewing experience.
Out on a ledge
The location of the screen on a slender, recessed, second story ledge made installation problematic. In the end, McCann specialists created a support structure that allowed the screen to be installed on the ledge. Seen from below, images are dramatically enhanced by the screen’s downward-angled perspective.
