Creating the AV systems for the screening room of the largest film studio east of Hollywood, CA, was awarded to McCann Systems due to its extensive experience with customized design/build.
“Hollywood East” gets star treatment from McCann
Respectfully referred to as “Hollywood East,” Steiner Studios, on the site of the old Brooklyn Navy Yard, is a 27,000 sq. ft. moviemaking facility with five sound stages. The 100 seat screening room is where directors and producers view the day’s production… “the dailies.” McCann Systems not only installed, but custom designed the key AV elements for the screening room, including sound system, projection booth, director’s console and even the lectern.
Automatic masking and a director’s console
Up front, a 19 ft. video screen dominates the room. McCann specialists programmed a mechanical side masking system for the screen with automatic stops to accommodate a 2.35 film aspect ratio and other ratios down to 1.33 for NTSC.
The AV system includes the director’s console which controls sound, lights, DLP projection, video sources and screen masking. It also holds a mic for communicating with the projection booth and even an AV pop-up that conceals video game and laptop connections.
Touch screens and a mobile Wi-Fi console manage the magic
AV systems are controlled by Crestron electronic touch panels on the director’s console and the lectern, as well as a mobile WI-FI tablet. They manage the projectors, adjust volume, control lights and other inputs, as well as select content sources.
